2019 has been a great journey in photography for me. It has been, first of all, a year of reflection. Photography has always been important to me ever since I was a kid, but I really became dedicated to it about ten years ago. I was just starting to get good when my budget SLR broke down on me and I was without a camera for some time. In 2017 my husband Josh bought me a new Canon 80d that I am still shooting with. It took me about a year to get back in the grove. In 2019 something clicked on in my brain and I really began to take photos that I was proud to share with people. So I’ve amped up my Instagram and starting taking on more paid shoots with a lot more confidence.

It doesn’t seem like much, but with a family and full time job that takes quite a bit of my energy, I always find time to do what I love more than anything else in the world (people obviously excluded ;p).

This year (meaning 2019 as I am writing this one December 31st), I have gained the following experiences:

  • Two weddings
  • Two engagement shoots
  • Two family shoots
  • Two child shoots

These are the so called “professional jobs” but I did many more shoots on top of that. My strategy for growth is to take anything and everything that comes my way. I need and want to be out in the field.  Hands on experience is the best kind of experience in my opinion.

Each paid shoot I have done has gotten me a new piece of equipment that only makes my photos better. Now, I have a full studio set up in my basement that is also mobile for travel (again compliments of my better half). I have more tripods laying around than I would like to admit.

Needless to say, this has been a great year for Jen Grace Photos. I am greatly looking forward to what’s to come in 2020. I’m ready to step it up to a whole new level now.

There’s not a lot in life that I am certain of, but I am certain of this, I don’t care how much money I make or not with my photos, I’m never going to stop taking them as long as I live!

Happy New Year to all of you. I have a few followers that have been very dedicated and encouraging to me. I am so thankful for YOU, thank you for helping me grow at what I love to do most. Cheers!

Below are my favorite images of 2019. Perhaps they’re not ‘the best’ technically speaking but for some reason or another they happen to be my favorites. Most of them come with a special personal memory.

Favorite Landscape 2019

I took this shot at sunrise on Cape Cod. This is where my husband grew up. It was raining and windy, but we still got up and went out to Shoot. What’s worse than a rainy photo? No photo at all.

Favorite Portrait 2019

I shot this photo early morning with my very good friend Sarah. I met Sarah because of photography. She is a beautiful model and allows me to practice my skills and new camera equipment with her. This early morning shoot I was able to practice off camera flash. Very fun morning.

Favorite Couples Shoot 2019

So if you follow my social media, of course you know I was going to pick one from my nephews engagement shoot. Love these two and they were so much fun to photograph.

Favorite Wedding Shot 2019

Another special memory. This was a wedding of a close friends. The bride’s sister gave her a very special gift that brought tears. I was told be ready and I was! What an incredible moment to be a part of.

Favorite Environmental Portrait 2019

My lovely friend Laina, the artist. She is such a creative thinker that all my photos are instantly brought to a new height. I have learned so much from her about what makes a good photo. This one we took at the Oxford Fair last year. It wasn’t the shoot she had in mind, but I loved this shot of her looking up at the sky at sunset and holding her hat.

Favorite Siblings Set 2019

My good friend Sheila who I love to death asked me to photograph her grandkids at one of my favorite locations ever-camp! These people are like family to us and it was such an honor to be able to capture these kids as they are now. Kids grow and change so fast!

Favorite Family 2019

My most recent photo shoot and in my opinion the most successful. The amazing Twitchell Family. What a beautiful family, nice location, great lighting, and an opportunity to use my studio lighting.

Thank you all for helping make my dreams come true!
